History

Since 1973, Taiga has established and expanded its business and network centres. Certain significant steps in the growth of Taiga's business include:

• 1973 Taiga formed as a small group of brokers, twelve people, established originally as Taiga Forest products.
   
• 1974 opened its first distribution/sale center in Calgary
   
• 1978 Expanded out east to Ontario in a one room apartment in Port Credit, ON. Doug Morris, a close associate of Taiga’s first president Pat Hamill, previously employed by Kingsway Lumber and later MacMillan Boedel, spearheaded the effort.
   
• 1978, Taiga purchased Diverse Wood Products at 570 Harrop Drive in Milton, a prefab home manufacturer from its parent company Beaver Homes. The five acre property included the buildings on site and a CN rail siding. Several employees stayed on and the first eastern branch of Taiga was formed. An additional three acres was added shortly afterward, followed by the corner lot at 520 Harrop Drive, where the current Milton sales office now sits.
   
• 1987 First Envirofor wood preservation plant opens in New Westminister, BC. Location later moves to Langley, BC in 1997 and is now referred to as an Envirofor treating plant.
   
• 1993, Taiga became a public company. Trading on the TSX under the symbol TBL and TBL.NT.
   
• 1994 Expansion to Dartmouth, NS, servicing the Dartmouth and Halifax area.
   
• 1996 Taiga purchased the assets of Norbord Building Materials which included branches in Brampton, Sudbury, Montreal and Quebec City, making Taiga a National distributor.
   
• 1998 Export sales department established in Burnaby head office
   
• 1999 Envirofor treating plant opens in Edmonton, AB
   
• 2002 purchased distribution centers in Rocklin, CA servicing North California and West Nevada.
   
• 2004 Envirofor Treating plant opens in Monetville, ON. Doug Morris next orchestrated the purchase of the pressure treatment facility owned by Fryer Forest Products in Monetville, ON in 2004. This purchase was the third plant in Taiga’s family of treated facilities and transformed Taiga into one of the largest treaters of residential preserved wood in Canada.
   
• 2005 Company name changed from Taiga Forest Products to Taiga Building Products Ltd.
   
• 2005 Taiga Logistics was created, providing transport solutions mainly in western Canada, but servicing as far east as Manitoba. The Taiga Logistics fleet has grown to include sixteen trucks company-wide. 
   
• 2008 Taiga International Sales (Export business) was built in Oakville, ON. Taiga International sells lumber exclusively into the U.S. from several border reload centers and includes an office in Buffalo, N.Y.
   
• 2018 Taiga Building Products acquires Exterior Wood, Inc., located in Washougal, Washington.
